Den building

We still have coughs, snuffles, sleepless nights … but nothing stops these two from den building!

Which makes me happy, as den-building was probably my most favourite activity as a child 🙂

This particular den is actually a tent.  They’re having a camping adventure, with camp-cooker, books to read, cuddly toys and plenty of shrieks of delight.

But as you can see, adults are most definitely not permitted to enter the tent!

Happy, healthy days to you all 🙂

My boys absolutely delighted in Den building as well, and it was such a delight to see them both enjoying their dens together despite the 5 year age difference.

  2. Josie Crafter says:

    That sounds great Lorraine!
Likewise, my siblings and I had good age gaps but we all mucked in when it came to den building – it’s such an ageless activity 🙂

  3. Floss says:

I adore dens, indoors and out. For some reason, our boys never got into them, although they loved the treehouse until the tree blew down! But uit gives me enormous pleasure to see your two really getting into den life.

  4. Josie Crafter says:

    Thank you Floss!
A tree house sounds magical. I’ve always fancied one of my own, maybe in the style of the tree house in the “Sense & Sensibility” film (Emma Thompson version!).

  5. Lola Nova says:

Oh yes, den building is a most wonderful activity! Perfect for all sorts of weather and adventure!

    Hi Alex
Thank you for popping by – lovely to see you 🙂
It is wonderful – in fact, I think pampering and rearranging our own homes is just a grown up version of den making, isn’t it?
    Happy days to you!

Aah, the “cubby house” (as we call it here). I remember making these with my sisters when we were kids. We would pull the lounge chairs together and use sleeping bags as the roof and walls. Fun times!

Ah, the timeless joys of den building. My lot favoured behind-the-sofa dens but my favourite place as a child was under my Grandma’s kitchen table. Happy days 😀

  9. Lisa says:

  15. Diane says:

My neighbour used to comment that my front lawn looked like Soweto in the school hols when my kids were little. They were den builder extraordinaire – and my daughter often makes a den in her room at uNI – AND SHE’S NEARLY 20! XXX

  16. Josie Crafter says:

So funny! Diane, I love that your daughter is still building dens ! Fantastic!

  17. ha ha my brother and I LOVED den building too (and were most adept!). We could spend days… NO … weeks.. building.. the best were done outside in the wood but we had some super ones indoors too (and child only is imperative, of course). How is the snow your end? Love Helen xx

  18. Josie Crafter says:

Ah, yes, the dens out in the wilds were the very best.
My favourites were created in hedgerows or corners of fields. We had a fantastic one under a huge old elm tree opposite our house – kept us all entertained for weeks on end!
    Happy days!

  19. Hooray for indoor dens – I’m a big fan as you know. Emma Bradshaw and I are talking about starting a national indoor den day! Sometime if Feb when the weather is cold and we’re stuck indoors!

  20. Josie Crafter says:

I love the idea of an indoor den day!

  21. Beth says:
